Introduction

Hello! Nice to see ya. Won't you sit down for a spell?

My name is McKenzie.  I am 21 years old, and in just a few months I will be starting a post-graduate degree in Agricultural Economics where I'll be focusing on the local food movement. I am also a newly-wed (1 month y'all!). Both raised in North Alabama, my husband and I are currently living in Mississippi while we are finishing school.  (Hail State!) That's right. We are both students. One thing I've learned while I have been in school is to be thrifty. I'm still learning, but I don't mind sharing what I've already learned.

I love doing a lot of things, but my favorite thing to do is bake. I braved it and made my own wedding cake. I enjoy regular cooking as well, and I plan on bringing you lots of my adventures from the kitchen, especially those adventures with fresh fruits and veggies.

It's hard not to be passionate about agriculture. We all came from an agricultural background, whether it was one generation away from the farm or fifteen generations away from the farm. I can't hide my Agricultural pride, so you should expect to get all kinds of random agricultural posts. It's a shame that most American's have no idea where their food comes from. Don't worry! I'll help you with that as time goes on.

I picked the name "Pretty is as Pretty Does" because my great-grandmother used to remind me of that every time I talked to her while I was growing up. Back then, I didn't have the slightest idea what she meant by it, but it all comes in time. Like the roots of a big Magnolia tree, all of our roots run deep. It's just as important to remember where you came from as it is to know where it is that you want to go. I am from a long line of Southern women just like my great-grandmothers and their's before them.I do my best to learn from them, and now I feel like it is my duty to pass it on to you.

Always remember: pretty is as pretty does.
